DVK x animus - Spark

I wanted to create a painting that feels alive, a piece of art that evolves in real-time as you watch it unfold before your eyes.

Notice the tiny sparks—there are millions of them, constantly emerging, reflecting the colors of the painting. Without them, it would be nothing but a black canvas.

The three paintings are fully digital works that I created, each one highly detailed and at a resolution of 8192 x 8192 pixels.

The story behind the artwork runs deep. I’ve grown up as an artist, and from a young age, I knew that I couldn’t be anything else. There’s no other path for me. It’s not that I lack the ability or intelligence to do something different, but I simply can’t. For me, it’s art or nothing—without it, life would lose its meaning.

That may sound dramatic, but it’s a feeling I’ve always shared. Recently, this sentiment led us to explore new artistic ideas. As these ideas took shape, we realized that animus had a personal connection to someone who had written on this very topic.

Charles Bukowski, a close friend of his father, penned a poem about this precise theme. This is what inspired animus to recite the crucial part—the spark that drives us to live, the details in life that ignite our hunger for more.

Omnia vincit amor. Love conquers all. Virgil. Not the sentiments of acerbic Beat poet Charles Bukowski, immortalised by Mickey Rourke in the film ‘Barfly’ and author of the poem ‘Spark’.

Bukowski and my father were decades-long friends. Both were romantics in their approach to life, if not to love. I am a romantic in all. Omnia vincit amor. I live it.

For my genesis work I am honoured beyond measure to collaborate with the magnificent DVK.

"Technology-scapes" is a groundbreaking art series that merges the realms of technology and nature into stunning visual masterpieces. At first glance, these works appear as serene landscapes, bustling cityscapes, or other familiar scenes. However, a closer inspection reveals an intricate tapestry of technological components and hardware seamlessly integrated into the artwork.

This series begins with initial painted sketches, blending traditional artistic techniques with modern technology. Each piece evolves through a meticulous process involving a mix of digital painting in Photoshop and the innovative use of AI. Every artwork consists of between 50 to 100 layers in Photoshop, each painstakingly edited by hand. This extensive layering technique adds an extraordinary sense of dimension, detail, and texture, creating a unique visual experience that invites viewers to explore and discover the hidden elements within.

"Technology-scapes" invites viewers to rethink the relationship between nature and technology, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the complex beauty that lies within the digital world.

I've created this piece 'Looking for Art' in colla

I've created this piece 'Looking for Art' in collaboration with the one and only @valkilmer

I sent the physical painting to Lisbon, and it will be exhibited next to the digital piece at the Art Beat exhibition/event by: Animus, Kamp Kilmer, Val Kilmer, Laurence Fuller, Tania Rivilis, CDM, XCOLLABZ and more.

After lots consideration I began to paint physically with oil and once I finished I brought it into my computer and continued digitally.

The piece thus became over 10 times bigger and by far more detailed. Have a look yourself, I developed the tools and process myself where edit and paint digitally directly on my screen.

I grew up with traditional art, and yet rebellious as I am, I've always leaned towards digital art. Therefore my piece starts with a finished oil painting as the sketch for my digital artwork.

The piece depicts and showcases the spirit of myself, Val Kilmer and his big inspiration Marlon Brando. The spirit I'm talking about is the interest for art and quality, no matter how difficult it could possibly be - take up the challenge and find the right path forward.

My poetic description of the piece:

I will break the rules. I will challenge the norms. I will not sit idle. I need a challenge; I will seek challenges.

This is a message. This is rebellion. This is provocation. This is controversy.

I will do anything for a challenge. I will do anything for art.

The world is full of challenges and art; the details are challenging, and I am beginning to love them.

How do we oversee them? I would give anything to see the details.

I cannot decide what art is; the market decides.

Challenge the mind, challenge the market.

With each brushstroke, she erased the scars of the past, roots of resilience breaking through the soil of despair. Standing tall, she was a force of nature, with a legion of warriors behind her. Together, they faced the challenges of the day, hearts united in courage. In their collective defiance, they found the strength to overcome.

'Gilgamesh & Enkidu'

In the city of Uruk, King Gilgamesh ruled with strength and pride, but his arrogance alienated his people. To humble him, the gods created Enkidu, a wild man who challenged Gilgamesh's might.

Initially adversaries, Gilgamesh and Enkidu soon became inseparable brothers. They embarked on adventures together, facing monsters and overcoming trials side by side. Through their trials, they forged an unbreakable bond, learning the true value of friendship and loyalty.

Their greatest adventure took them to the Cedar Forest, where they defeated the monstrous Humbaba, earning fame and respect. However, their triumph was marred by tragedy when Enkidu fell ill and died.

Devastated by the loss of his brother, Gilgamesh sought immortality but ultimately realized that true eternity lay in the memories and deeds shared between them. Returning to Uruk, Gilgamesh ruled with wisdom and compassion, honoring Enkidu's memory and ensuring their bond would endure for eternity.

While technology and AI play a role, it's the artist's intent that breathes life into the artwork. When artists blend their vision with AI tools, a unique synergy emerges, enriching the creative process. But what defines the soul of digital art? It's the artist's thoughts and emotions infused into the work, transcending the medium. Even with digital and AI involvement, the artist retains control, guiding the creation with their unique perspective. In essence, the soul of digital art resides in the artist's intent, shaping the artwork's essence and connecting with viewers on a profound level.
